Decorative Tile

Image of Decorative Tile

There are a seemingly endless variety of decorative tile choices on the market today. Simple online research or a visit to your local home improvement store reveals countless material options. Decorative tiles can be made of ceramic, metal, PVC, vinyl, wood and mosaic, to name a few.  They also come in a variety of colors, sizes and price points for every budget. Really, there has never been a better time to choose decorative tiles to improve your kitchen.

However, too much of a good thing, in terms of the sheer volume of choices, isn’t always the best. The following tips can help you narrow down what you want in terms of kitchen decorating.

Embrace color

Whether you opt to paint your walls or cabinets or just keep a neutral background and add small “pops” of color sparingly throughout the space, paint is one way to make a dramatic difference for very little cost. One advantage to paint is that it can easily be repainted if you change your mind or opt to go with a dramatic change later.

Make it yours

Sure, some people want a kitchen that looks like something out of the pages of Architectural Digest, but you want your kitchen to be a reflection of your tastes and lifestyle. Add personal touches like framed children’s artwork, family photographs or displayed collections of cherished pieces to make the space uniquely yours.

Mix and match

Don’t be afraid to mix different patterns, textures and colors. Experiment with what works for you and is pleasing to your eye. Here’s an example of such a kitchen that really works.

Lighten up

Choose interesting light fixtures such as pendant lights over food prep or task areas. Elegant chandeliers work well in both formal and contemporary spaces, drawing the eye upwards and providing visual interest.

Get organized

Instead of using magnets and putting shopping lists and the like on the refrigerator, look at ways you can use corkboard, either on a wall or inside cabinets to keep papers out of sight.

Accentuate the positive

An interesting backsplash or wall panels go a long way to liven up a space. Choose Fasade traditional, modern or contemporary backsplash, ceiling or wall panels to make the most out of the space behind an oven, on an accent wall or on the ceiling.
